Meet Lisa Chen, LMFT: Your Partner in Emotional Wellness and Growth

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#140374)

Lisa Chen, LMFT, is a Hermosa Beach–based psychotherapy expert specializing in work with high-achieving professionals, executives, and couples navigating burnout, trauma, and relationship strain.

As a former corporate marketing and business development executive, I know what it’s like to live under constant pressure to perform, to deliver, to hold it all together at work and at home. Like many of my clients, I thrived in high-performance environments across investment banking, digital marketing, and technology until I realized that “pushing through” was costing me my health, relationships, and sense of peace.

Today, I help individuals, couples, and families turn that relentless drive toward something more meaningful: healing, clarity, and stronger connection. My background at The Wharton School and Harvard Business School allows me to understand the unique pressures executives, entrepreneurs, and professionals face, particularly the ripple effects those pressures can have on partners and children.

In therapy, we work together to uncover what’s really going on beneath the surface, not just managing symptoms but getting to the root of stress, conflict, anxiety, or burnout. I integrate evidence-based approaches like Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, Intimacy from the Inside Out,Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and Pain Reprocessing Therapy to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.

If you’re ready to feel more connected to yourself, your partner, or your family, I’d be honored to work with you.

I provide individual, couples, and family therapy in Hermosa Beach, both in-person and online for California

Who I Work With

My clients run companies, operating rooms, courtrooms, trading floors, and locker rooms. They include CEOs and founders, C-suite executives, physicians and surgeons, attorneys and partners, professional athletes, entertainers, and other public-facing individuals — people whose names are known, whose calendars are brutal, and whose problems can't be discussed with just anyone.

They come to me with some version of the same sentence: "I've built everything I said I wanted, and I don't feel the way I thought I would."

Burnout that vacations don't touch. A marriage running on logistics. A drive that started as ambition and now feels like a hostage situation. Panic before board meetings nobody will ever see. If that's familiar, you're not broken. You're running decades-old high-performance software that was never designed for the life you have now. My job is to help you update it.

Why Executives Work With Me

Because I don't need the corporate world translated. I've sat in the budget reviews, the earnings pressure, the 11 p.m. "quick call." When you describe golden handcuffs, a hostile board, a fund that's underwater, or a season-ending injury to your identity, we skip the explanation and start the work.

And because the work itself is rigorous. I integrate neuroscience-informed, evidence-based methods — EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gottman Method and IFIO couples therapy, somatic approaches, and psychodynamic depth work — chosen for the same reason you'd choose any advisor: they produce results. We don't just manage symptoms. We find the root cause and resolve it.

Discretion Is the Foundation, Not a Feature

If you are a public figure, an executive whose face is on the company's About page, or an athlete whose private life is treated as public property, you already know why most rooms aren't safe for honesty. Mine is.

Confidentiality here goes beyond legal and ethical requirements. It's built into how the practice operates: private scheduling, discreet office locations in Hermosa Beach and Los Angeles, secure telehealth across California and Florida, and private intensives structured so the people around you never need to know you're doing this work. For clients who can't be seen in a waiting room, you won't be.

My Approach

How do people change? After decades of hard-earned wisdom through difficult challenges, I learned that change results from within and as a result of the quality of the relationship between the therapist and client. Across the many different approaches to therapy, the most important factor is your relationship with the therapist as an agent to change.

In my journey, earning an Ivy League degree and working for Fortune 500 companies taught me in the accomplishment of my highest professional goals, a sense of meaning and joy is derived from a relationship with myself, my partner, and my community.

Warm and compassionate, I am a deep listener. I am also grounded, so we can remain focused on resolving the issues that brought you into therapy in the first place. Together, we will work towards your goals.

If you're ready to take the first step towards positive change, don't hesitate to reach out. Feel free to contact me directly by phone or email to schedule your consultation. Whether you prefer in-person sessions in Hermosa Beach or online therapy for California residents, I am here to support you on your journey toward healing and growth.
