Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (161567)

Supervised by Bob Northcutt, LMFT (#51430)

Hi, I’m Payton, an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) specializing in those whose lives and careers are built on leading and caring for others.

I work with the givers: high-pressure professionals, caregivers, and healers who are used to being the most regulated person in the room. While you are the one everyone counts on, your compassion should not come at the expense of your well-being or your most intimate relationships.

Prioritizing your own healing allows your work and relationship to remain sustainable. In high-pressure environments, the risk isn’t just stress, it’s secondary trauma, burnout, and compassion fatigue.

When you are "on" all day, you often return home physically present but emotionally unavailable. We move beyond coping to explore the unconscious patterns and generational cycles that keep you over-giving and over-functioning. Our goal is to shift your life and partnership from performance to sustainable, honest integration.

Our sessions focus on the quiet work required for those who always have the answers. We utilize:

  • Befriending the anxious, messy, and "unproductive" parts of yourself.

  • Healing the roots of the need to be the "strong one" in every room.

  • Moving away from a dynamic where partners feel like "projects" rather than equals.

  • Reconnecting with who you are beneath the roles and expectations.

As a former professional athlete, I know the heavy cost of high performance and the weariness of hiding behind a "capable" exterior. True growth happens in the slow, intentional spaces where you finally have permission to be the one who is held.

You have mastered the art of caring for others; I look forward to focusing our energy on caring for you.

Payton’s Approach

In the therapy room, you don’t have to perform.

My style is warm, collaborative, and non-judgmental and grounded in psychodynamic, depth-oriented therapy with an LGBTQ+ affirmative lens. We don’t just focus on “coping skills” in the short-term (although we will build tools that help). We also look at the deeper patterns underneath what you’re feeling: the beliefs, relational dynamics, and experiences that shaped the way you learned to function, connect, achieve, and protect yourself.

Rather than trying to force anxiety, depression, self-criticism, or overwhelm to go away, we get curious about what those feelings are communicating. We pay attention to what your mind is doing, what your body is holding, and what you’ve been carrying alone for too long. Over time, the goal is that you feel more connected. To yourself. To your relationships. To what matters.
